Jan Jeroen Vranckx

Jan Jeroen Vranckx serves as Chief and Program Director of the dept. of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery at the KU-Leuven University Hospitals in Leuven, Belgium.

He is Full Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine , KUL University of  Leuven.

 

He trained in Leuven University Hospitals, Belgium and performed fellowships in the Hospital Sao Joao in Oporto, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, in Taipei, Taiwan and at Harvard’s Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA from 2000-2002. He obtained the PhD-degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2007 featuring ‘Smart Autologous Tissue Engineering’.

His clinical & research work resulted in more than 100 publications, proceedings and bookchapters about head and neck surgery, lower extremity reconstructions, abdomino-perineal surgery, breast surgery, fatgrafting and the twilight zone of tissue engineering and microsurgery.

This work resulted in ’Best Paper Awards’ at the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery ASRM, at the European Association of Plastic Surgeons EURAPS & AAPS and at the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery WSRM. In 2016 he won the Hans Anderl Award from EURAPS and was awarded the Marko Godina Award of the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery ASRM, resulting in the 24th Godina Memorial Lecture 2017 at the ASRM USA. He lectured as Visiting Professor in more than 50 institutions worldwide.

Recently in 2021 he was elected Secretary-General of EURAPS -the European Association of Plastic Surgeons- for a period of 3 years leading the association as its CEO into a bright post-Covid future.
